Once on This Island at Roy Couzens Theatre. Roland engaged as musical director for the staging of the 1990 Broadway musical by Ahrens & Flaherty. Working alongside director Steven Stead they brought this Tony Award winning story to life with talented learners from Westville Boys & Westville Girls High School.
It was an absolute pleasure to see our local students resonate with this coming of age story that pivots around a peasant girl falling in love with a wealthy boy from a not too far away town. Beautiful theatrical moments were brought to life as Ti Moune
(the protagonist) makes a pact with the four gods; Asaka, mother of the Earth, Agwé, god of Water, Erzulie, goddess of Love and Papa Ge, demon of Death to save Daniel, the boy she save and falls in love with.
